Paddy's house
Went to take a look at Patrick Leigh Fermor's house in Kalamitsi last week, and was sad to see that just five years after his death it is already badly run down - some broken shutters, a few broken windows, even the stone lintel on the main gate missing (stolen? removed?). The terraces were swept clean of leaves, so someone is doing basic cleaning, but all very tatty. I read recently that the Benaki Museum had allocated some funds for upkeep, but there does not seem to be a concerted effort to maintain what is one of the most beautiful properties in the region. Understandably it is expensive to keep a big property like that just for the privilege of visiting scholars.

Re: Paddy's house
When I was last there I heard that this winter or in spring renovation works would start organised by the Benaki museum. Let's hope it is true and that they will do soon a good job....
